Culture Response to COVID-19: Honors Project
PBHL-A 120: Culture, Health and Happiness

I enjoyed working on this project because it opened my eyes to how cultural values, beliefs, and communication styles shape the way communities experience and recover from crises. It helped me better understand the need for culturally competent care and the importance of tailoring emergency response efforts to meet the unique needs of diverse populations. This perspective will stick with me as I move forward in my healthcare career.
Strategic Plan: Eskenazi Hospital
PBHL-H 401: Strategic Planning in Health Organizations

For my strategic planning project, I focused on Eskenazi Hospital, a vital safety-net hospital serving the Indianapolis community. This project gave me the opportunity to assess environmental factors, identify key community health needs, and propose initiatives that support equitable access to care. I learned how important strategic planning is in ensuring that hospitals not only operate efficiently but also remain responsive to the evolving needs of their patients. Working on this plan deepened my appreciation for community-focused healthcare and strengthened my interest in nonprofit health leadership.
Homelessness and Poverty in the Hispanic Community: Honors Project
PBHL-H 315: High Risk Behaviors & Harm Reduction

For my Honors Project, I researched the systemic challenges that contribute to homelessness and poverty within the Hispanic community in the United States. I explored barriers such as language access, immigration status, healthcare inequities, and employment discrimination. This project allowed me to connect my passion for health equity with real-world issues impacting underserved populations. It reinforced my desire to work in nonprofit healthcare and advocate for more inclusive, culturally competent services.
