Undergraduate Experience

I am thankful to have had different experiences throughout my undergraduate experience at IU Indianapolis. Scroll down to read about some of them!

Academic & Career Development: Lead Peer Advisor

I began working at Academic and Career Development in October 2022 as a Peer Advisor. In this role, I assisted students with schedule adjustments (such as dropping or adding classes), managed the front desk, and responded to emails and phone calls.

About a year later, I was promoted to Lead Peer Advisor, which expanded my responsibilities and allowed me to step into a leadership role. This position has been incredibly rewarding and has helped me grow both personally and professionally. In addition to my original duties, I now manage our office’s social media, create shift schedules, lead weekly team meetings, train new peer advisors, and assist with hiring efforts. Along with this, I support the Arts, Humanities, and Human Services (AHHS) cluster. As "their peer", I track Student Engagement Rosters and reach out to students with concerning data. I also help with various outreach projects such as Dine and Discuss events, birthday messages for students, and messages for students not yet enrolled in classes.

This role has strengthened my communication, organization, and leadership skills—and confirmed my passion for helping others succeed.

Paws Pantry: Lead Volunteer

I began volunteering at Paws' Pantry in 2021 during my freshman year to fulfill a service requirement—but I quickly fell in love with the mission and community. In 2022, I stepped into a Lead Volunteer role, where I took on greater responsibility. I helped manage student check-ins for pantry appointments, trained new volunteers, maintained appointment spreadsheets, and oversaw opening and closing duties. This experience deepened my commitment to addressing food insecurity on campus and strengthened my leadership, teamwork, and organizational skills.

Hoosier Village Retirement Community: Life Enrichment Intern

As a Life Enrichment Intern at Hoosier Village Retirement Community, I had the opportunity to support resident well-being through engaging programs and personalized care. I assisted with planning and leading activities, developing monthly calendars, and coordinating special events. I also conducted intake and quarterly assessments, contributed to resident care plans, and maintained participation records. This internship gave me hands-on experience in senior living and deepened my passion for creating meaningful experiences in long-term care settings.

I am thankful to continue on at my internship and step into a receptionist role after graduation. I cannot wait to see where this opportunity takes me.

MTI School of Knowledge: Administrative Intern

As an Administrative Intern at MTI School of Knowledge, I support both front desk operations and classroom management for children ages 2–6. I assist with daily routines to ensure a safe, structured, and engaging environment. My responsibilities include coordinating field trips and transportation, helping with parent communication, and working closely with the school’s director to support overall operations. This role has strengthened my ability to multitask, communicate with diverse age groups, and contribute to a positive learning atmosphere.
